Detroit Pistons x ABC Vintage: The Collab The City Needed

In a city built on resilience, craftsmanship, and grit, the Detroit Pistons are bringing that very essence to fashion. The Motor City's Pro basketball team partners with a local Metro Detroit vintage shop, 'ABC Vintage' to launch a limited capsule of 14 handpicked, vintage Carhartt jackets featuring custom Pistons patchwork — each one a one-of-one piece that pays homage to the city’s industrial legacy and creative pulse.

The collaboration, spearheaded by Jordan "J. Hibb" Hibbett, the Pistons’ Retail Marketing Coordinator, is more than just a merch drop — it’s a cultural statement. By merging sports, streetwear, and Detroit’s deep-rooted blue-collar ethos, the Pistons are redefining what team merch can represent. Every jacket tells a story of authenticity and community — stitched together from the past but designed for a new generation of Detroiters who wear their pride on their sleeves. We got a chance to hear from J. Hibb himself about the collab. Lets get into it...

What this collaboration meant to him personally

He told me, “Honestly it was everything. Like most Detroiters, I’ve been a Pistons fan since I was a kid. I’ve been shopping with ABC Vintage since they opened in 2020. So being able to bring both parties together to create custom Carhartt jackets was a dream come true.”

A moment from the process that really stuck with him

“One thing that made this project even more personal was that my tailor Ali actually did all the patchwork on the jackets,” he said. “I’ve worked on a lot of collaborations in my role, but I poured everything I had into this one. It’s truly my most personal body of work so far.”

How projects like this push NBA merch into lifestyle fashion

He explained, “My hope is that it makes people feel more comfortable stepping out in sports apparel. Since I started doing retail for the Pistons, my goal has been to produce products that challenge what people expect ‘merch’ to look like. When people see these jackets, I want them to recognize that we’re creating pieces — not just merch.”

The most rewarding part of seeing it all come together

“Honestly, seeing the fans react to the jackets,” he said. “Detroit takes so much pride in its history and storytelling. The fact that everyone loved the jackets — and they sold out before the game even started — was a true blessing from God.”
