This artist is a basketball player outside of his music career. He is a father of 2, and he was born in Germany! He is known for his lyricism, and his sound switch up. This artist is none other than J Cole!

J-Cole was born Jermaine Lamarr Cole on January 28, 1985 in Frankfurt, Germany. Cole grew up in a mutli-ethnic home. Cole states, "I can identify with white people because of my mother, and her side of the family who I love. But at the end of the day, I have never felt white." He began rapping at the age of 12, however he did not execute his plan as a rapper until he graduated high school. After graduating high school, he decided to move to New York City so his chances of getting a recording contract would be higher. By the time he was 14, he had notebooks filled with raps. Cole has been influenced by Canibus, Nas, Tupac, and Eminem. In 2009, that is when his luck began to change!

J. Cole released his mixtape The Warm Up, and that same year, he was featured on Jay-Z's song "A Star Was Born" on Jay-Z's album The BluePrint 3. In 2010, he debuted Who Dat (one of my all time favorites) and the song was also featured in Step Up 3! Since his debut, J Cole has become one of the most influential rappers in the game. From the start of his career, he has released several great projects: Cole Word: The Sideline Story, Born Sinner, 2014 Forest Hills Drive (one of my personal favorites), 4 Your Eyez Only (another one of my favorite albums) , KOD, Revenge of the Dreamers III, The Off Season (another favorite), and D-Day: The Gangsta Grillz Mixtape.

In September 2022, J Cole had released a song called 90 Proof. The song features Smino, who is a singer/rapper from St. Louis, Missouri. I like this song because it gives a chill aesthetic. When I say a chill aesthetic, I mean light a candle, turn on your LED lights, and enjoy the vibe. This is why J-Cole is one of my favorite rappers because he always delivers and never disappoints! J Cole always keeps his fans on his toes, but with this one? This one is it!

As a J Cole fan, I have always admired his rap skills. He digs deep into his life such in 2014 Forest Hills Drive, he speaks on his upbringing, his transition from North Carolina to New York. The number 2014 was based on the year he purchased his first home. Overall, J Cole is very artistic because he creates relatability with his fans. Not only that, he connects with his music because from my perspective he is sharing his life with the world. I admire him because not a lot of people would be comfortable to share their lives like him. I hope one day I interview him in person because he seems like he is down to earth! In the mere future, I hope J Cole does something out of his norm because that will really have me in awe!
